Taylor Swift’s new album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ leaks early online

Sorry, Taylor Swift – ‘you need to calm down’ won’t help your fans right now.

The US singer, 34, is dealing with an unprecedented early leak of her much-hyped new albumThe Tortured Poets Department (TTPD), with all 17 songs purportedly popping up online Thursday, a day before its release.

Swift’s 11th studio album, scheduled to drop April 19, has been the subject of widespread excitement, particularly given the likelihood of personal diss tracks following her high-profile split from boyfriend of six years, Joe Alwyn in April last year.

But there’s one lyric in particular from an unverified track that has yanked attention amid the presumed leak, which references US singer Charlie Puth.

You smoked and ate seven bars of chocolate / We declared Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist.

The random lyric has raised eyebrows from the star’s fans on X – formerly Twitter – where both ‘Taylor Swift’ and ‘TTPD’ are trending worldwide.

Another wrote, “out of everyone …. EVERYONE …. on god’s green earth …………………… charlie puth.”

A third joked, “trying count how many bars of chocolate I ate after getting high and thinking about Charlie Puth popularity to the general public.”

Another wrote, “someone pls tell me that Charlie puth lyric is fake pls.”

Given the Grammy winner’s notoriously frenzied fanbase and her status as one of the most famous people on the planet, it’s fair to assume Swift would have the best possible security measures in place to prevent leaks, making the breach all the more baffling.

According to the Daily Mail, the snippets were allegedly taken from a Google Drive link.

It’s important to note these songs are unverified, with Swift’s team yet to comment on the leak.

Swift’s popularity has reached fever pitch over the past two years, with the singer releasing her last album Midnights to much fanfare in late 2022.

Since then, she’s been embarking on her blockbuster Eras Tour, with Taylormania completely taking over Australia in February.

Just before she touched down on Aussie shores, the billionaire songstress famously jetted from Tokyo to Las Vegas to support her NFL star boyfriend Travis Kelce in the Super Bowl finale, which his team, the Kansas City Chiefs, won.

Further, Swift’s also been completing rerecordings of her previous albums, with 2017’s Reputation due next.

Her Eras Tour will kick off its Europe leg in May.
