Taylor Swift’s new 1989 version outsells original

The reworked 1989 (Taylor’s Version) has shot to the top of the Billboard 200 album chart and is the first LP to debut with 1 million units sold in its first-week twice, both in 2014 and 2023. The new record beats the first-week sales of the original 1989, making it her first re-recording to out-sell the original album, recording sales figures of 1.6 million units. It also had the biggest album sales week of 2023, beating Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and Midnights and giving her the three top selling albums of the year.
