King Charles appeared teary-eyed on Friday as he unveiled statues in honour of the his mother and father, the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.
Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla, unveiled new statues in memory of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip on Saturday at the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at Royal Albert Hall.
Photos taken of the 75-year-old monarch during the touching event showed what appeared to be tears welling up in his eyes as he looked on with a proud gaze, likely reflecting on memories with his parents.
Charles was tasked with pulling the curtain away from the statue of his mother, while Camilla, 76, did the honours for Philp’s statue.
The statue unveiling was part of a greater ceremony for Remembrance Day, which recognises those who have sacrificed their lives to serve and protect the Commonwealth.
Several members of the royal family came together to commemorate the occasion, including Prince William and Kate Middleton, Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, Princess Anne and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and Duke of Kent.
Charles tears follow a statement released by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, after they hit back at a report claiming they turned down an invitation to King Charles 75th birthday, insisting they’d never even received one.
“In response to UK media headlines, there has been no contact regarding an invitation to his majesty’s upcoming birthday,” Ashley Hansen told New York Post.
“It is disappointing the Sunday Times has misreported this story.”
The couple’s alleged lack of invitation to such an important family event is in stark contrast to just five years ago, when they reportedly delayed their honeymoon to attend Charles’ 70th birthday party, and even posed for a series of portraits with Harry’s family.
Meanwhile, Harry and Markle were recently caught having a seriously lavish night out in Vegas that is believed to have cost a whopping $43,000 dollars.
The royals flew in a Gulfstream jet with fellow A-listers Cameron Diaz, her husband Benji Madden, and actress Zoe Saldana to see Katy Perry’s final show of her Las Vegas residency at Resorts World Theatre.
