A two-week youth curfew in the Alice Springs will be extended following a series of meetings with the Northern Territory Chief Minister.

It comes after an additional 60 police officers were sent into the remote town, after widespread rioting broke out on March 27.

NT Chief Minister Eva Lawler said the curfew for people under 18 will be extended for another six days.

She declared an “emergency situation” in the Alice Springs CBD two weeks ago after an outbreak of youth crime.

Northern Territory MP Robyn Lambley said the town was in a “state of crisis” and welcomed the extension of the curfew on Tuesday.

More to come.
